You Shouldn’t Have to Direct Every Conversation

An employee comes to you after an uncomfortable interaction with a client’s family member.

“What should I have said?”

As a supervisor, you want to support them. You also want employees to develop their own judgment within the expectations of their role. That is the professional development opportunity I’m interested in: giving people space to consider how they will interact and take responsibility for their communication choices.

Beyond the right words

A caregiver entering a client’s home brings more than knowledge of their assigned responsibilities. They also enter conversations that require attention, judgment, and decisions about their own participation.

My approach to communication development makes room for that thinking.

Through The ROOM Method™, participants explore professional situations and determine an approach that works for them within the boundaries of their role. The emphasis is on developing thoughtful communication choices they can explain and reflect on.

A shared responsibility

Supervisors establish expectations and provide guidance. Employees have a part in considering how their communication meets those expectations.

The Professional Presence Readiness™ Workshop creates structured time for that reflection. It is an opportunity to place employee ownership at the center of communication development, with the supervisor’s expectations providing a clear foundation.

There is value in making room for employees’ own thinking. Their communication choices become something they can understand, reflect on, and take responsibility for.
